On 10th February 2025, CGTTI and the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA) signed a pivotal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance renewable energy training in Sri Lanka. This collaboration aims to address the increasing demand for skilled professionals in the renewable energy sector, in line with Sri Lanka’s national target of achieving 70% renewable energy generation by 2030.
The key initiative under this MoU is the establishment of a Renewable Energy Training Institute at Hambantota Solar Park. The training program will offer a comprehensive Renewable Energy Technology Training Course, designed to provide trainees with the technical expertise and hands-on experience essential for success in the rapidly evolving renewable energy industry. The course will be delivered jointly by CGTTI and the Sri Lanka German Training Institute (SLGTI), fostering a unified approach to renewable energy education across both institutions.
This partnership also aims to bridge regional gaps by creating a central hub for renewable energy training in the southern region of Sri Lanka, enhancing collaboration between the northern and southern areas. By doing so, it supports the national effort to cultivate a new generation of highly qualified renewable energy professionals who can contribute to a sustainable, green energy future.
The MoU aligns with CGTTI’s broader vision of sustainability, building on its existing initiatives such as solar energy installations and renewable energy courses. This partnership marks a significant milestone in CGTTI’s 65-year history and reinforces its role as a leader in vocational training and innovation in Sri Lanka.
CGTTI extends its sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Education, SLSEA, and GIZ Sri Lanka for their invaluable support in bringing this initiative to fruition, marking the beginning of a promising journey towards a greener future for Sri Lanka and beyond.
